Waffle Day is also the Feast of the Annunciation, upon which waffles are typically eaten. The shift from the religious celebration to Waffle Day occurred because the Swedish V\u00e5rfrudagen, meaning \u201cOur Lady\u2019s Day\u201d (the Feast of the Annunciation), sounds similar to V\u00e5ffeldagen (\u201dwaffle day\u201d) in faster speech. So over time Swedes began calling it Waffle Day and celebrating by eating waffles!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INGREDIENTS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 100 g melted butter (+ some for brushing onto iron)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 300 g plain flour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 2 tsp baking powder<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 1 tsp vanilla sugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 250 ml whole milk<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 250 ml water (sparkling!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>INSTRUCTIONS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Preheat the waffle iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Add ingredients to large mixing bowl and whisk together until batter is smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Brush waffle iron with melted butter and then spoon a ladle of batter onto iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.
